Build around the standard Hope Pro 5 148 mm Boost rear hub. The cassette, rim and brake each impose their own requirements.
The standard 148 mm Boost rear hub is offered with 6-bolt or Centrelock rotor mounting and 24, 28, 32 or 36 spoke holes. Choose those interfaces before ordering.
Hope Pro 5 148 mm specificationsHope documents separate Micro Spline and XD/XDR 108-engagement freehub assemblies. Its e-bike documentation includes different 54-engagement assemblies. Keep the hub version and service parts together.
Identify the version in Hope’s hub documentsThe Pro 5 DH hub is a separate product designed for seven-speed DH cassettes. Do not apply the twelve-speed examples below to that hub.

Shimano cassette specificationsThis specific Eagle model lists 10–50T gearing, XD driver and Eagle chain technology. Use the appropriate Pro 5 XD configuration. Other XG-1295 revisions can differ.
SRAM model-specific specificationsInterface comparison: the published cassette and freehub standards agree in these pairings. That does not establish the rest of the drivetrain. Confirm the derailleur’s range, chain and shifter generation separately. XD and XDR installation arrangements must follow the relevant instructions.
Hope’s Fortus 30 SC Pro 5 is a trail/enduro option that brings the hub, rim and spokes together. Its published recipe includes:
Hope describes the rim profile for 2.4–2.8-inch tires. The tire, sealant, cassette and brake rotor still need selection.
Choose the exact rear-spacing variant. Hope’s page lists several widths but also uses a general 142 × 12 mm supplied-conversion statement; confirm the ordered 148 mm wheel configuration with the seller.

For a 29-inch trail/enduro build, the EX 511 variant RDEX51CDPW32SA6298 provides a concrete rim specification to compare with a 32-hole Pro 5 hub.
| Part | Recorded specification | Still needed |
|---|---|---|
| Hub | Standard Pro 5 148 mm Boost, J-bend, 32 holes | Frame/axle fit, cassette interface and rotor version |
| Rim | EX 511 29-inch, 32 holes, 30 mm internal width, 601 mm ERD | Riding/load suitability and tire selection |
| Nipples & washers | DT lists Pro Lock Squorx aluminium nipples and PHR washers with this rim | Use the rim-specified hardware in the build |
| Spokes | J-bend connection; 32-spoke assembly | Model, lacing pattern, left/right lengths and tension plan |
| Inflation | Rim has a Presta valve hole and hooked tubeless interface | Compatible tire, tape, valve, sealant or tube |
DT Swiss exact rim variants & support
Matching hole counts is only the start. Calculate spoke lengths from the exact hub geometry, rim ERD, nipples and lacing pattern. No spoke length is prescribed here without those inputs.
For the 29-inch, 30 mm internal-width examples above, begin with a 29 × 2.4 tubeless tire. The choices below are candidates with published dimensions; frame clearance, casing suitability and the complete rim/tire pairing still need confirmation.

Exact tire specificationManufacturer pairing: Schwalbe recommends Doc Blue Professional for its TLE tires. Its current quantity guidance for 62–100 mm tires is 90–120 ml per tire.
Doc Blue 3711.01 · quantity & instructionsMaxxis lists its 2.40 and 2.50 sizes for 30–35 mm internal rims. Select a 29 × 2.40 version marked TR, then choose the casing and compound for your riding. Those choices are not interchangeable product identifiers.
Compare DHR II sizes, casings & compoundsMaxxis requires a tubeless-compatible rim and liquid sealant for TR installation. This is an alternative tire path; the Schwalbe sealant pairing at left is not a Maxxis-specific endorsement.
Maxxis TR requirements| Part | Selected route | Check before use |
|---|---|---|
| Tape | Hope Fortus 30 SC: supplied 32 mm tape. Custom EX 511: DT Swiss lists 32 mm tape for 29–30 mm internal rims. | Use the rim’s installation directions; inspect coverage and adhesion. |
| Valve | Fortus wheel: supplied valve. Custom wheel: tubeless Presta valve with a base that seals the rim bed. | Choose sufficient exposed length for the pump; verify the base and rim fit. |
| Sealant | Nobby Nic TLE path: Doc Blue, 90–120 ml for the listed 62 mm tire. | Shake and follow current instructions; check liquid level during service. |
| Tube option / spare | Choose a tube whose size range includes 62-622, with the correct valve. | Verify tire/rim permission for tube use. Remove the separate tubeless valve before fitting a tube. |
| Repair supplies | Pump, compatible tire levers, valve-core tool, suitable tube or tubeless repair kit. | Select patches for the tube material; sealant does not repair every cut. |
Record both the rim and tire pressure limits and follow the more restrictive applicable limit. A printed maximum is not a recommended riding pressure. Rider load, terrain and casing influence the operating choice.
The custom example above uses the 29-inch, 32-hole variant with 601 mm ERD and the specified PHR washers and Squorx nipples. It keeps the proposed 32-hole Pro 5 hub, subject to the wheel builder’s lacing and spoke calculations.
Return to the exact EX 511 buildENVE lists 30 mm internal width, 28 holes, 3 mm rim offset and a 605 mm ERD for the 29-inch rim. Its suggested tire range is 2.3–2.6 inches.
ENVE AM30 specificationsThis is a separate 28-spoke build proposal. It cannot replace the rim in the 32-spoke example unchanged. Choose a matching hub drilling and recalculate spoke lengths, accounting for the rim offset and required hardware.
ENVE tire and tube requirementsENVE identifies AM30 as hookless and permits inner tubes only with a tubeless or tubeless-ready tire. Carry those requirements into the tire choice; do not transfer the EX 511’s hooked-rim assumptions to it.
Select the rotor attachment with the hub: 6-bolt or Centrelock. Then match the rotor’s diameter and thickness to the caliper, frame and adapter. The hub attachment alone does not settle those dimensions.
For example, Hope’s Vented rotor is 3.3 mm thick and made for V4 brakes; Hope excludes it from EVO GR4 compatibility. A matching six-bolt hub would not remove that restriction.
A Hope Floating 6 Bolt rotor, 203 mm × 1.8 mm, matches the attachment of a six-bolt Pro 5. Hope’s EVO GR4 page excludes the Vented rotor; use the ordinary floating rotor route as the example to assess with that brake.
Floating rotor dimensions & mountingStill conditional: the frame must allow a 203 mm rear rotor, the caliper mount needs the correct adapter, and the floating carrier must clear surrounding parts. No adapter is selected without the frame’s native mount size. A 200 mm rotor is not the same dimension.
The Pro 5 Micro Spline drawing identifies bearings, pawls, springs, seals and drive-side spacers separately. A bare freehub body is not the entire conversion assembly. Confirm all required pieces against the exact hub.
