BRAKES · WHEELS · CONTROLS
Keep the whole brake together.
Two specific brake recipes alongside Hope. Choose the brake for the bike and riding, then carry its requirements through the hub, frame or fork and cockpit.
Shimano XT M8100 / M8120.
| Component | Selected route | Connection / evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Lever + caliper | BL-M8100 + BR-M8120 four-piston | XT four-piston caliper |
| Hose | SM-BH90-SBM, with its specified banjo, insert and connecting hardware | Hose and fittings in the exploded drawing |
| Pads | N03A resin or N04C metal, finned; select compound and confirm current replacement code | Pad options and replacement parts |
| Rotor example | RT-MT800, 203 mm, CENTER LOCK; diameter remains conditional on frame/fork approval | Rotor specification |
| Fluid | Conventional SHIMANO hydraulic mineral oil (SM-DB-OIL shown in parts drawing) | Specified oil and parts |
The archived Shimano parts drawing identifies RT-MT800 with BR-M8120 and records the hose, pads and fittings. Keep this established generation distinct from newer XT brakes and their service requirements.
The rotor example needs a CENTER LOCK hub and a suitable lockring. It does not fit the six-bolt wheel example directly. Select the corresponding hub version or revisit the rotor through Shimano’s compatibility chart.
SRAM Maven Silver A1.
| Component | Selected route | Connection / evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Brake assembly | Maven Silver DB-MVN-SLV-A1 lever and matching caliper | Exact A1 model and manuals |
| Hose kit | Silver Banjo Disc Brake Hose Kit 00.5318.038.000; mineral-oil configuration requires the correct green seal | SRAM hose kit selection |
| Pads | Maven-specific steel-backed organic or metal sintered; choose compound and confirm package contents | Maven pad and service specification |
| Rotor example | HS2 RT-HS-2-A1, 200 mm × 2.0 mm, six-bolt version | HS2 rotor variants |
| Fluid / bleed kit | SRAM-specified Maxima Mineral brake oil and SRAM Mineral Oil Bleed Kit with the Maven-compatible fitting | Installation, hose and bleed manual |
This recipe identifies A1 deliberately; Maven Silver B1 also exists. Identify the model before choosing service parts. The product/service listing includes organic and sintered pad options; confirm the pads in the package you order.
The six-bolt HS2 connects to the six-bolt Pro 5 wheel route. Its 200 mm diameter requires the appropriate frame/fork mount and adapter. It does not use the same adapter assumption as the 203 mm Hope rotor example.
Four rotor checks, not just a bolt pattern.
- Hub attachmentSix-bolt or CENTER LOCK; include the correct bolts or lockring and tool.
- DiameterConfirm frame and fork permitted sizes separately. Record the native mount size before selecting an adapter.
- Thickness and pad compatibilityUse the brake maker’s documented rotor and pad combinations. A thicker rotor is not an automatic upgrade.
- ClearanceCheck caliper alignment and clearance around the carrier, fasteners and frame/fork.
No adapter part number is selected here because the frame and fork are not identified. A post-mount brake also needs a different assessment from a flat-mount installation.
Brakes meet shifters and dropper remotes.
BL-M8100 uses I-SPEC EV for compatible integrated controls. The existing XT drivetrain recipe selects a separate-clamp SL-M8100-R; it does not require converting to an integrated shifter. If using the integrated version, check its exact mounting specification.
For Maven, choose the appropriate standalone or MatchMaker X clamp arrangement for the actual shifter or AXS controller. Check reach and handlebar space with the dropper remote in place. A third-party adapter needs its own model-specific fit evidence.
The drivetrain brand does not determine the brake brand. Hydraulic lever/caliper mixing is a separate compatibility question and is not approved by a matching handlebar clamp.
Complete the order and service kit.
For each end of the bike, record lever side, hose routing and length, caliper, pads, rotor diameter and attachment, adapter, mounting hardware and required fluid. Then add the correct bleed block, fluid-specific kit, hose tools, rotor tool and torque tools from the model’s manual.
Keep the two fluid systems and their service equipment identified. Do not choose fluid by the words “mineral oil” alone, substitute DOT fluid, or assume Shimano low-viscosity oil belongs in this older XT recipe. Follow the exact model instructions for fittings, hose shortening, bleeding and pad bedding.
A front-and-rear set is two separate circuits. Front and rear rotor sizes, hose lengths and adapters may differ. Final installation includes a leak check, lever-function check, secure mounting and the manufacturer’s bedding procedure before riding.
Manufacturer sources checked September 28, 2026. These are component recipes, not whole-bike fit approval. Use the exact generation and current instructions; frame-specific adapter and clearance decisions remain open.
