Start at the head tube, move through the bearings and steerer, then place the controls where the rider can use them.

Headset size includes the interfaces.

The reference frame identifies IS41/28.6 upper and IS52/40 lower interfaces. Keep crown race, bearing angles, compression ring and cover with the selected complete headset.

Chris King DropSet 3

King lists IS41/28.6 and IS52/40, with a 45 × 45 upper bearing and 36 × 45 lower bearing. Use its included baseplate or the specifically supported integrated crown race. This is an interface candidate requiring the complete frame/fork check.

Do not mix loose bearings from these two systems merely because their outer diameters match.

Position controls before final sizing.

Use the brake and shifter mount choices from their recipes. The dropper remote can use a separate clamp, which keeps its fit independent of an integrated brake adapter. Check lever reach with hands on the grips.

Bar clamp diameter, grip-area diameter and steerer diameter describe different locations. A “35 mm” stem does not take 35 mm grips. Follow the specific stem faceplate sequence and torque; do not substitute a generic equal-gap instruction for a maker’s no-gap or top-lock design.

Check hoses and housing through full steering and suspension movement. Finish bar width and steerer length only after confirming rider position and permitted dimensions.
